About Lorna

With an educational background in psychology and specialist training in psychotherapeutic approaches to art therapy, Lorna’s therapeutic style focusses on helping people to explore emotions, experiences, identity, expression and social connectivity through visual arts in relation to relevant psychological frameworks.

Person centred practice is an important part of Lorna’s therapeutic work, embracing the flexibility of art making to meet different needs. For example, as a way to externalise the mental experience and explore this in a safe, contained, trauma informed space or in a less directive sense to explore self soothing, creative play and reflection.

Prior to training in art therapy, Lorna has vast work experience in community based charity social support work. Specialising in women’s and children’s services, providing one to one support to adults and teenagers around multiple complex needs such as experience of exploitation, sexual abuse, domestic violence, addiction, complex trauma, incarceration and homelessness. This inspired her to pursue art therapy and her current practice in safely exploring difficult experiences in depth from a psychotherapeutic angle of self realisation, processing trauma and encouraging wellbeing.

In terms of art therapy practice, during training, Lorna specialised to work with children and young people, however through these prior experiences, is confident meeting people from all walks of life with empathy and understanding.
